Planting design for North West gardens
Chosen for your soil, your aspect, and how much time you actually want to spend gardening.
The right plant in the right place
The North West is wetter and windier than most of the country, and gardens on the Fylde coast have salt and exposure on top of that. A scheme that works in a Surrey courtyard will struggle here.
We plant for the conditions you've actually got, and for the amount of time you actually want to spend out there. Those two answers shape everything else.

TESTIMONIALS
What our clients say
We’re proud to create gardens that our clients love.
“Fantastic design and renders provided for a large eco-system pond project. The team seemed to go the extra mile and have a very good eye for detail. Will use again and definitely deserve 5 stars.”

Questions
Frequently asked questions
I'm not a gardener. Will I be able to look after it?
That’s one of the first things we ask about. There’s a big difference between a planting scheme for someone who enjoys a Sunday in the garden and one for someone who wants it to look after itself.
Tell us honestly how much time you want to spend, and we’ll design to it. A low-maintenance scheme isn’t a worse scheme — it just relies on structure, evergreens and the right plant in the right place rather than on constant intervention.
Will the plants survive here?
They will if they’re chosen for the conditions. The North West is wetter and windier than most of the country, and coastal gardens on the Fylde have salt and exposure to deal with on top of that.
We choose for your soil, aspect and exposure rather than picking from a catalogue. It’s the difference between a scheme that establishes and one that needs replanting in three years.
Does the planting plan tell me what to buy?
Yes. You get species names, quantities, pot sizes, spacing, and where each plant goes on the plan. [We also list suppliers and approximate costs.]
You can hand it to a nursery and order from it directly, or we can source and plant it for you.
When is the best time to plant?
[Autumn and spring] are ideal — the ground is warm and damp, and plants establish before they’re under any stress. Container-grown plants can go in most of the year, but summer planting needs watering and midwinter planting into waterlogged or frozen ground is worth avoiding.
If the build finishes at an awkward time of year, we’ll say so and suggest planting as a second phase rather than forcing it.
Can you design the planting if someone else built the garden?
Yes. Planting design works as a standalone service on an existing garden — we survey what’s there, work out what’s worth keeping, and design around the structure you already have.
